Exhibit Policy

I. Statement of Purpose

The Essex Library Association Board of Trustees has determined that the Library should display exhibits within its facilities, subject to a published written policy. The purpose of this Exhibit Policy is to establish the procedures and rules by which exhibits will be displayed in the Library, and which will be applied without discrimination and in the best interests of the community the Library serves.

II. Exhibits
A. Proposals for particular exhibits may be made to the Library Director by individuals and/or groups in the community. The Library Director will consider such requests in consultation with the Program Committee. All exhibits will reflect respect for the educational, cultural, social and recreational role the library plays in the community. The Library does not necessarily endorse the opinions or beliefs projected in works displayed at the Library.

B. All art or other materials that are selected for exhibition in the Library and are not part of the Library collection are loaned to the Library free of charge and with no commercial purpose. Additionally, the Library will not sell promotional or fundraising items on behalf of the exhibitor

III. Responsibility for Exhibits
The Library Director and the Program Committee are authorized to approve and select exhibits. The use of display areas will be determined by the Library Director at his or her sole discretion, in consultation with the Committee.

IV. Exhibit Policy
A. The library will recommend the dates of display and each exhibition will be for one month. Installation and removal are the sole responsibility of the exhibitor.

B. Any press releases, announcements or parties that an exhibitor may wish to arrange to mark an event must be mutually agreed upon by the exhibitor and by the Essex Library.
C. There is no fee for the use of exhibit space. However, donations to the Essex Library Association, a 501(c) (3) organization, are welcomed and encouraged.

V. Exhibit Guidelines
A. When an exhibit involves art or materials not belonging to the Library, each exhibitor must complete an application.

B. The Library is not responsible for damage or loss to loaned items.

VI. Enforcement
The Library Director is authorized to determine the appropriate use of exhibition space based on this adopted policy. In case of denial of use, appeal may be made in writing to the President of the Library Board of Trustees.

VII. Amendment
The Library Board of Trustees reserves the right to amend this Exhibit Policy at any time.
